Artificial Intelligence

The best way to get a good answer is to ask the question well. This is true in everyday life, and it is certainly true when it comes to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Seeking Alpha has a tool that is available for subscribers. I tried it recently to see how it would work.

Three Sample Questions
Here are three questions related to SPCX (Space Exploration Technologies Corp). The last one is the one that yielded some interesting results. LINK: ASK Seeking Alpha
Q1: What are the alternatives to SPCX with Buy QUANT Ratings? – Results: UNSATISFACTORY. The reason? The number one in the list was APYX (Apyx Medical Corporation.) Other suggestions were equally questionable when thinking about SPCX’s business.
Q2: What are the alternatives to SPCX in the Alternative Carriers industry with BUY QUANT Ratings?
The results of this query were equally UNSATISFACTORY. “Your screener found 0 stocks.” Now, that just means the criteria I provided was overly restrictive. I said I wanted BUY ratings, so the next question eliminated that requirement.
Q3: What are the alternatives to SPCX in the Alternative Carriers industry? This proved to be more helpful. “I’ll find other Alternative Carriers stocks similar to the prior screen, and I’m using the Alternative Carriers industry as the core filter.”
“Here’s what I’m screening for: Alternative Carriers industry, Stock price: At least $1, Weekly trading volume: At least 0.01% and Results sorted by largest companies first.”
Alt Carriers Alternatives
Rank Symbol Company Name AI Report Market Cap Sector & Industry
1 SPCX Space Exploration Technologies Corp. 2.16T Alt Carriers
2 ASTS AST SpaceMobile, Inc. 33.68B Alt Carriers
3 GSAT Globalstar, Inc. 10.45B Alt Carriers
4 LUMN Lumen Technologies, Inc. 8.20B Alt Carriers
5 IRDM Iridium Communications Inc. 5.77B Alt Carriers
Comparing The Five
I then created a portfolio with these five ticker symbols so that I could see the QUANT ratings. The easiest way to do this is to enter the ticker symbols separated by commas like this: SPCX, ASTS, GSAT, LUMN, IRDM. That is how I created the cover image for this post. It makes it much easier to compare related investments using Seeking Alpha,
Another Approach
You can use SA’s “Suggested Queries.” You can also “Explore More Queries.” When I did that, I saw one of interest to me: “Compare MU to its peers.” The results were helpful because they included the QUANT ratings and a graph of the price increases for the shares of the comparable investments.

Caution and Recommendation
Always remember that bad questions can result in questionable answers. Artificial intelligence can be helpful when researching various investments. However, don’t disengage your brain when you read the results. After all, it is ARTIFICIAL “Intelligence.”
When asking AI questions, think specifically and ask specifically with sufficient detail. Don’t let the AI engine run wild.
