Most investors don’t want to invest in something that is a losing proposition. The goal is to examine the risks and then put as many dollars as possible into an investment that will bring profit. For most investors, this is a life-long pursuit. Unfortunately, many investors are not successful and many who are successful are failures in so many other areas of life.
There is one investment that Jesus says you need to get right. This is the investment of your soul. During the Sermon on the Mount he said the goal was to be “perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” This goal, on our own, cannot be achieved. So Jesus also said something about how to obtain this perfect righteousness. In Matthew 6:33 Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Seek God’s righteousness. In other words, my righteousness is insufficient, so I should seek God’s righteousness on my behalf.
The Apostle Paul made it clear how this is possible. God expects us to believe him and to accept the gift of the Son of God. Faith is the key. Faith brings God the glory, because by faith we declare that we believe God can and does save by giving us his righteousness through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who came to seek and to save the lost. Paul echoes this Old Testament truth about the gospel: “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” Romans 1:17
Do the math. You cannot save yourself. Your soul is worth far more than everything and anything you can gain in this world. Jesus told you to do the math: “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” Matthew 16:26 ESV
Invest wisely.
