“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14

“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” Proverbs 15:22

“A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.”  Proverbs 24:5-6

Enjoy the second benefit of friendship: A second opinion.

When you hear the words “second opinion” we normally think medical advice or recommendations for conditions requiring surgery. We don’t really want an opinion. We want the benefit of someone with different eyes, better questions, knowledge and wisdom. “Second opinion” advice is valuable in all aspects of life. It can include investing, home remodeling and even the purchase of a used car. A good mechanic can give a second opinion about the car you are considering and alert you to potential costs you might not see on the surface.

Many decisions can turn out to be bad decisions because we have blind spots, a lack of knowledge, inexperience or just don’t think. We make far too many decisions with what feels good or looks good without much consideration. A good friend can help you ask the right questions before you jump to a solution. Even a friend without knowledge and experience might see a flaw in your thinking and can help you slow down and think before making a decision you regret.

Be willing to be a wingman to your friend.
