It is a Success!

In February of this year we switched our two iPhones from US Cellular to PureTalk. US Cellular billings averaged $74.25 per month or about $37 per phone per month. We generally have very little data usage. We don’t use much data because most of the time we are on our home Wi-Fi or other places that have free Wi-Fi.

As I said in my previous post, I am a firm believer that we should not pay more for something we don’t use. In reviewing our statistics from US Cellular, it was obvious that we were using less than 1GB of data per month.

Since making this change one of my readers pointed out that I might qualify for an additional veteran discount. I applied for that discount, and it appears my application was accepted. Therefore, our monthly cost will drop a bit more.

PureTalk Network Bars and Quality: Perfect Performance

We have done a bit of travel since we switched carriers. Most of the time we are in the Madison, Wisconsin area. We have not had problems. During a trip to visit our son and his family last month we were in southwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa and in Illinois. Service worked in those places as well. Next month we will be traveling to Ohio and West Virginia. I don’t anticipate any problems based on the coverage maps on the PureTalk website. When you go to the PureTalk website you can check coverage for your areas.

Veterans Take Note

Thanks to a diligent reader of my blog, I learned about a discount I missed in my first discussion of this provider. “As a patriotic, veteran-led company, PureTalk salutes all our military service men and women. It’s our honor to offer a 15% discount to those actively serving or who have served our great country. Our cell phone plans start as low as $20 with no contracts or hidden fees. At PureTalk, we believe in offering a great product at a fair price. We also believe in keeping jobs here at home; all of our customer support agents are 100% U.S. based.” – PURETALK

Don’t Forget the Other Bills

Do you just wince or scowl and bear it each time someone raises the price of a service you use? Perhaps you don’t have the time it takes to save money, but when you are retired, you will want to think about this. I can think of at least two services we use that try to raise our monthly charge each year. Each year I call to cancel and each year they offer a new “special” which keeps the price the same for another twelve months.
