Just Saying It Doesn’t Make It Right or So or True

The world we live in is full of relative truth. Mankind likes to color his evil actions with “that really isn’t a big deal.”

Here is the root of the problem. God has a very different view. We are to be image bearers, according to the created order in Genesis 1:26-27. God says something we like to ignore: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

If we are to be good image bearers, then we need to image God in our character, emotions, thoughts, actions, and priorities. If we don’t, we are not fulfilling God’s primary intended purpose for each image bearer.

Two Examples to Ponder

Here are two examples from the book of Proverbs that fly in the face of being an image bearer.

Proverbs 28:24 says, “Whoever robs his father or his mother and says, ‘That is no transgression,’ is a companion to a man who destroys.”

Proverbs 24:24-25 says, “Whoever says to the wicked, ‘You are in the right,’ will be cursed by peoples, abhorred by nations, but those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.

How to Identify a Follower of Jesus

You have value, and followers of Jesus will treat you as an image bearer would treat another image bearer. In other words, Christians display the love of God to every other image bearer, both friend and enemy.
