The Perfect Pattern

Those who make things want to have a starting point. That starting point is often a pattern. It might be a blueprint diagram of a building, a recipe for a cake, or some paper that helps you cut fabric to the right size for a quilt or a shirt. The results will often depend on the quality of the pattern.

When it comes to living life well, the pattern, or example we follow, makes all the difference in the world. Jesus set an excellent pattern for us, and he showed us not only what it was, but he lived it.

This is what he said to his disciples: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

The Apostle John repeated this frequently. In 1 John 4:10-11 he told the church, “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
