Why I Trust God

Jesus is the only name to remember – Casting Crowns

Why do I trust God? The reasons are quite simple. He loves me and he wants what is best for me. If you remember me, but don’t know Jesus, then you have missed the person who is most important. Don’t remember Wayne.

Jesus is the only name to remember. He loves you.

This week as I was reading Raymond C. Ortlund Jr.’s book, Proverbs – Wisdom that Works, I was reminded of a great hymn by Isaac Watts. The hymn is When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.

This is what Ortlund said: “Chapters 1–9 of Proverbs burn with urgency. We feel it in Proverbs 1:20–33. This passage speaks to us when we slip into the complacency that says, “Sure, I wouldn’t mind my life getting a little better.” The Bible is saying, “That attitude will destroy you. Now is the time for you to turn a corner!” The famous lyric by Isaac Watts awakens us again to Christ: “Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.”Raymond C. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Here are the lyrics to Isaac Watts’ famous, timeless hymn:

When I survey the wondrous cross

On which the Prince of glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss,

And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ my God!

All the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down!

Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present far too small;

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.
