The Cuckoo Grandma was not cuckoo!
One of the gifts my mom gave me was the gift of time. Of course, she gave me her time as a mother. She gave me the gift of her time in praying for me. She also gave me a gift: a wonderful reminder of her every time I see it. The gift was her 1949 Cuckoo clock. It still works, but we have not had it ticking for over a year. (That is another story, but I’m tempted to restart it. I must ask Cindie for her approval first.)

Cindie recently discovered some notes my mom had written. At the top of the page mom wrote Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (ESV)

This single sheet shows that mom took time to not only read God’s communication to her, but she took time to reflect on the reason God had the prophet write the words. She wanted her time to be used mindful of a time that was coming: her future. She was thinking with eternity in mind.

She was also challenging herself to “think” and to “consider.” This was no “read the Bible in a year” approach. This was a powerful tool for reflection. And, as a result, my mom reflected her Savior well and she now has been enjoying her future with her Savior for several years. Mom used her time well. Do you?

As a grandma myself, this really touched my heart. I need to continue every day to pray for my kids and grandkids, and to be an example to them. I hope I am remembered the way you remember your mom. Visiting from FMF. God bless you.
