But it doesn’t have to be for you.

If you have investments today, regardless of where they are, be prepared for some huge losses today. Due to the OPEC disagreements, especially between Saudi Arabia and Russia, Crude Oil futures prices are tumbling dramatically, as are all other assets except gold. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P 500 down more than 5% today, perhaps even 10% down.

As a Christian, I don’t walk in a state of worry or fear. God is still in control. OPEC, dictators, terrorists, market crashes and everything else that many fear, are not out-of-control. Remember that God is the one a Christian trusts, not political leaders or even wisdom, wealth, strength . It is better to trust in the One who is worthy of worship and trust. In the paragraphs below are some thoughts for you to remember as today unfolds. (Oh, and before I forget, I can tell you what I will do with our investments today: nothing, unless I decide to buy something. I’m not selling. My advice: act like an owner, not a trader.)

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.’”  Jeremiah 9:23-25 (ESV)

“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” – Hebrews 11:24-26 (ESV)

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7 (ESV)
