Thinking is something we all do, and most of the time we don’t want others to know our thoughts. God makes it clear that our thinking is not right; that our thoughts are not his thoughts. I cannot hide my thoughts, which reveal the true “me”, from God. Mom realized her thinking was wrong when she looked at what God said in the Bible said about her thinking, attitudes, words and actions. That was the beginning of a major change in mom’s life. She agreed with God. Her thinking aligned with God’s truth. She called on Him, repented and accepted his compassion as a gift. That is the heart of the gospel.

It didn’t stop there, however. Mom’s thinking was gradually saturated with the scriptures which became like bread to her mind to fuel her thoughts. As a result, she began to see a transformation in her thinking because God’s Word continued to pierce her soul and spirit as a surgeon separating the cancers of her thinking from her life. I could see the changes in her life. When life jostled her, or when people offended her, what spilled out wasn’t venom but honey. Her words and attitudes became much like God’s because her thinking was more like God’s as she matured in her faith.

Here is an important question to consider: Are you and I being transformed in our thinking to be more like God’s thinking? If not, God suggests you partake in a reasoning session with him: ““Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 ESV

A.W. Tozer said it well.

Some other passages to consider include:

“The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are  higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:6-9

“The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but gracious words are pure.” Proverbs 15:26

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
