Proverbs 4:20-23 (ESV) “My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
I am starting this blog post in my hotel room in Le Claire Iowa. Cindie and I are in the area to help Matt and Kelly and to spend time with our granddaughters. I am staying in the hotel as a precaution due to my cat-related allergies (they have three cats), but I will be in their home during the daytime hours. As a result, I heard a conversation the desk clerk had with one of her coworkers. The clerk encouraged the lady to consider the words in the book of Revelation. Her coworker’s response was “I don’t need a man-written Bible.” She was telling her coworker to stop telling her the truth. Unfortunately, she doesn’t realize that is what she is doing.
We need to be careful that we don’t read or hear truth and then ignore it. Truth needs to inform our attitudes, thinking, priorities and actions. Hanging on to truth increases our faith and provides healing and renewed living. We really need to keep our hearts. The best way I have found to provide my physical heart with healthy nutrients is to eat healthy food. The best way I have found to keep my spiritual heart living and beating well, is to saturate it with truth and wisdom from God’s Word. “Keep your heart with all vigilance!”
