What Does Seeking Alpha Say?

There are several ways to use Seeking Alpha to evaluate a stock/ETF portfolio. Using Excel, I downloaded our positions from Fidelity Investments and then created an Excel Pivot Table to be able to sort our investments by estimated annual income. The goal was to see the quality of the income stream.

There are two primary considerations in this type of review. I want to know that the majority of the investments are in profitable companies and I want to know that there is a measure of safety in the dividend payment.

The Top Twenty Are

CSWC, ARCC, MAIN, OBDC, VYM, ABBV, F, PFE, TSLX, SCHD, ABR, GAIN, STX, SAR, CAG, IBM, GSL, GTY, NNN, and EOG. If you know your symbols, you will see two ETFs in this list: VYM and SCHD. You will also notice that I have considerable income from BDCs. The following image highlights the investments from my pivot table.

Please note that these investments are not sorted by total value. For example, I have a $329K investment in AVGO, and it does not appear in the top twenty even though it is in the top ten investments we own. This list only displays the top investments by income. However, we do have a significant total investment in VYM and ABBV. Keep that in mind when you consider how you invest.

Recommendation

Always pay attention to profits. Profitability matters. Therefore, even if there is a bear market or market volatility, I am more interested in profits. Profits are the best way to fuel dividend income and dividend growth.
