Keeping My Mouth Shut

“It takes two years to learn to talk and seventy years to learn to keep your mouth shut.” Anon. (John Blanchard, The Complete Gathered Gold: A Treasury of Quotations for Christians (Webster, New York; Darlington, England: Evangelical Press, 2006), 587.)
I have a library on my computer with hundreds of books. The software I use is from Faithlife, LLC. The software is Logos Bible Study 37.2. Although I have many books in my home office, sometimes when I am preparing to teach I like to be able to quickly copy text from a source to my teaching notes.
As I was looking at Blanchard’s compilation, I paused on the quote shown above. Not only is this generally true, but it even is true at 73 years old. We would do well to heed the Apostle John’s reminder about our talk. Perhaps we should do less talking and more doing.

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 ESV
