The Dogs Love to Fetch

On the Road Part 2 Louisiana and three dogs

This is a continuation of a short series I am writing while on vacation. Cindie and I are currently in Florida, and we are having a wonderful time with our friends Barbara and Tony. Their home is comfortable and the weather, unlike Wisconsin, is sunny and warm. Monday, we went to Mexico Beach to enjoy the sand and collect seashells. Then we headed further east to Port Saint Joe for lunch at Joe Mama’s Wood Fired Kitchen. After that we continued on to Apalachicola to explore some of the shops.

Three Dogs with Three Personalities

We used to have Cocker Spaniels. They loved to catch things, but did not necessarily want to bring them back. Their idea was keep away. The three Yantis dogs are of mixed thinking in this regard. One thing they do know is the word “Outside.” They also know that “Stick” is a code word for let’s chase after a stick and then, perhaps, return to repeat.

Dozer is slower and a bit more rotund. Therefore, I try to throw one stick close to him after I have tossed the other stick as far as I can. Floki and Maggie are delighted to chase after the stick. Maggie understands that this can be repeated, so she will return with the object thrown. Floki, on the other hand, is more inclined to keep the stick. Even the word “drop” is often ineffective. I think Floki wants me to chase and attempt to grab the stick from her. That just is not going to happen.

The nice thing about vacation-dog fun is that we don’t have any vet bills, dog food, or other cleanup activities. We have fun with zero work.

We Will Return

Our goal is to return home via Louisiana, so I will be able to play fetch one more time before we return to the Wisconsin cold. In the meantime, we will continue to enjoy our time with our friends in Florida.
