Christmas Carol Theology

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will see that at least 95% of my posts are related to investing. The reason is simple. I want to share what I have learned about investing and perhaps impart some wisdom so that you can avoid my past mistakes or wrong thinking.

My fear is that you will spend most of your time gathering ideas and using what I say and ignore things that are even more important. I cannot recall ever posting a link to any sermon I have preached, but today is an exception. The time I spent preparing to preach is a far better use of my time than just researching investments.

What I don’t want you to conclude is that I am promoting myself, my church, or even a protestant denomination. I only want to share with you, my reader, some things that are so much more important than temporary, short-lived investing skills and success.

The Main Idea

The main idea of the sermon (link) is this: “When we realize our deep disgrace, we will praise God for his glorious grace.” The focus is on our great need and God’s great grace. This was the result of thinking about a song by Bob Kauflin: Glory Be to God Songwriter & music: Bob Kauflin (original words by Charles Wesley)

Scripture Text for the Sermon

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.” John 1:14-18

Glory Be to God

By Bob Kauflin

VERSE 1

Glory be to God on high

Let peace on earth descend

God comes down before our eyes

To Bethlehem

God invisible appears

Endless ages wrapped in years

He has come who cannot change

And Jesus is His name

VERSE 2

Emptied of His majesty

He comes in human form

Being’s source begins to be

And God is born

All our griefs He’ll gladly share

All our sins He’ll fully bear

He will cover our disgrace

And suffer in our place

VERSE 3

Let the joyful news ring out

The Prince of Peace proclaim

Lift your heart and voice to shout

Immanuel’s name

God has kept His promises

What a work of grace this is

Son of Mary, chosen One

The Lamb of God has come

BRIDGE (2X)

Hosanna, hosanna

The Lamb of God has come

Hosanna, hosanna

He is the promised One

Glory be to God on high

Let peace on earth descend

God comes down before our eyes

To Bethlehem
